Understanding Card Statuses
Last updated April 9, 2026
Overview
Your Slash cards can have different statuses depending on whether they're ready to use, temporarily disabled, or permanently closed. Understanding these statuses helps you manage your cards effectively and troubleshoot any issues with transactions.
This article explains each possible card status, what it means for your card's functionality, and how to change your card's status when needed.
Card Statuses
- Active: The card is fully functional and ready for transactions. All spending controls and limits you've configured are in effect.
- Paused: The card is temporarily disabled. Transactions will be declined, but the card can be unpaused at any time without needing to request a new card. Pausing is useful when you want to temporarily restrict spending.
- Inactive: The card has been deactivated and cannot process transactions. It is unlikely that you will encounter an inactive card on newer versions of Slash; please contact support if your card is listed as inactive.
- Closed: The card is permanently deactivated and cannot be used again. Cards are closed after they are deleted, or if the associated account is closed.
Only cards with an Active status can authorize transactions. If your card is Paused, Inactive, or Closed, any transaction attempt will be declined. Here's how card status affects your ability to spend and receive funds at a glance:
When Cards Are Automatically Paused or Closed
In certain situations, Slash may automatically change your card's status due to:
- Account freeze: If your account is frozen for any reason, associated cards are suspended. When the account is unfrozen, cards return to a Paused status and must be manually reactivated.
- Security concerns: If suspicious activity is detected on a card, it may be paused or closed as a protective measure. Contact support if you believe this happened in error.
- Account closure: When a subaccount is closed, all cards linked to that subaccount are permanently closed.
