Using the Slash Accounting Dashboard

Overview

The Slash accounting dashboard helps you review, categorize, and sync your Slash transactions to QuickBooks Online. Instead of manually exporting statements or entering transactions by hand, the dashboard pulls your Slash activity automatically and lets you map it to the right accounts before syncing.

The dashboard handles the preparation and review stage of your accounting workflow. You'll still use QuickBooks for your full chart of accounts, reporting, reconciliation, and any transactions that don't come from Slash.

Understanding the Dashboard

When you open the accounting dashboard, you'll see your transactions organized into tabs based on their sync status:

• In Review: New transactions that need your attention. This is where you'll categorize transactions, add memos, and make any adjustments before they're ready to sync.
• Ready to Sync: Transactions you've approved and are queued up to push to QuickBooks.
• Synced: Transactions that have been successfully exported to QuickBooks.
• Archived: Transactions you've chosen to exclude from syncing (for example, internal transfers you handle differently in your books).
• Failed: Transactions that encountered an error during sync. This tab only appears when there are failed entries to address.

Each tab shows a count so you can quickly see how much needs attention.

Reviewing and Editing Transactions

For each transaction in the In Review tab, you can:

• Assign an expense account: Map the transaction to a QuickBooks expense account (like "Office Supplies" or "Software Subscriptions").
• Add tracking dimensions: Depending on your QuickBooks setup, you can assign a class, department, location, project, vendor, or customer to the transaction.
• Edit the memo: Add notes that will appear on the transaction in QuickBooks.
• Attach receipts: Link receipt images to transactions for documentation.
• Split transactions: Break a single transaction into multiple line items with different accounts or tracking categories. This is useful when one purchase spans multiple expense types.

Once a transaction looks correct, mark it as Ready to Sync. You can do this individually or select multiple transactions to approve in bulk.

Setting Up Default Mappings

To save time on repetitive categorization, you can create mapping rules in Settings > Mappings. These rules automatically assign accounts and tracking dimensions based on:

• Card: Route all transactions from a specific card to an account.
• Card group: Apply the same mapping to all cards in a group.
• Merchant: Automatically categorize recurring vendors (e.g., always map "Amazon" to "Office Supplies").
• Merchant category: Map entire spending categories (e.g., all "Software" MCC transactions to a "SaaS Subscriptions" account).
• Virtual account: Assign transactions from specific virtual accounts to projects or locations.

When a new transaction comes in, the dashboard applies these rules automatically. You can still override the mapping on individual transactions during review.

Syncing to Your Accounting Software

When you're ready to export, navigate to the Ready to Sync tab and click Sync to QuickBooks, Xero, or Sage (depending on the software you have configured). This pushes all approved transactions to your connected software. After syncing, the transactions move to the Synced tab. They now exist in both Slash and your external accounting dashboard.

Here's what's handled in Slash versus what's handled in your accounting software

In Slash:

• Review and categorize Slash transactions
• Set up mapping rules for cards and merchants
• Add memos and receipts
• Split transactions across accounts
• Approve and sync to QuickBooks

In Your Accounting/ERP Software:

• Manage your full chart of accounts
• Create and edit expense accounts, classes, departments, etc.
• Run financial reports
• Bank reconciliation
• Record non-Slash transactions (payroll, manual entries, etc.)

Think of the Slash dashboard as the staging area for your Slash transactions. QuickBooks remains your system of record for the complete financial picture.

• The mapped account was deleted or renamed
• A required tracking dimension is missing
• The connection needs to be re-authenticated
