Adding Bills to Your Accounting Dashboard
Last updated October 22, 2026
Overview
When you upload a new bill to Slash, it shows up in two places: under your Payables tab, where you can track upcoming payment due dates, and under your Accounting tab, where you can review the associated documents and payment record and sync them with your accounting software.
A bill paid through Slash can sync to your connected accounting software as both the bill and the corresponding bill payment:
- The bill represents your company’s obligation to a vendor.
- The bill payment records how that obligation was settled.
Sending both records lets your accounting software reflect the full lifecycle of the payable, rather than showing only a standalone movement of money.
Using the Bill Accounting page
The Bills dashboard under your Accounting dropdown works similarly to the Transactions tab. If the bill is still in review, you can click the entry to view it in more detail or add supporting documents and information; additionally, you can quickly add AP and accounting dimensions to the entry by clicking on the dropdown menus in the entry row.
Each bill record moves through four stages as it’s reviewed and prepared to sync with your ledger:
- In review: Uploaded bills appear here automatically. You can view the payment status and associated invoice details, and assign the appropriate account, vendor, class, and other dimensions in your ledger.
- Ready to sync: Bills your team has already reviewed, with documentation and coding applied to the bill record, appear here for a final review before moving to your accounting software.
- Synced: A record of all bills already added to your ledger. This tab has two-way sync, so bills added directly to your accounting software should appear here automatically.
- Archived: Bills you’ve chosen to exclude from your ledger, such as accidental uploads, incorrect entries, or duplicates.
To move a bill through the review stages, click the small checkbox on the left side of the entry row. The box highlights yellow, and a menu appears at the bottom of the page. You can also select all bill entries on the page by clicking the checkbox at the top left of the table next to 'Vendor / Owner'.
From the menu, you can:
- Assign quick mappings to the bill entry based on your accounting dimension sync preferences.
- Assign attributes to the bill, including vendor, class, customer, department, project, and more (based on the dimensions available in your ERP).
- Archive the bill entry.
- Move the bill to the next stage or send it back for additional review (the available options depend on which stage you’re viewing).
Once a bill has been reviewed in the Ready to sync tab, complete the sync by selecting the checkbox next to the entry and selecting Sync to [your accounting software] from the menu at the bottom of the screen. Check your accounting software to make sure the bill and its details carried over correctly.
Additional information
Dashboard organization
You can customize the accounting dashboard by showing or hiding columns and applying filters to narrow down entries. To show or hide columns, select Manage columns near the top right of the page and choose the columns you want from the dropdown.
Accounting sync menu options
The dimensions available for your bill entries may differ depending on the accounting software or ERP linked to your Slash account. Slash currently supports native integrations with QuickBooks, Xero, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, DualEntry, Rillet, and Campfire.
Editing a bill after sync
You can view a synced bill’s details in the Synced tab, but you can’t select or edit the entry there. Any changes to the bill after sync must be made in your accounting software or ERP. Once you save those changes, they update in Slash automatically.
Related payments
When you open a bill entry, you can toggle between two views on the right side of the review panel: Attachment and Related payments. Attachment shows an image of the uploaded bill document, if available. Related payments lets you link the bill to an existing payment record in your Slash account, for example if you paid the bill by ACH outside the bill pay flow. Search for the transaction in the Related payments tab and link it to the bill entry.
