How to Pay Bills with Slash
Last updated October 22, 2026
Overview
Slash lets you upload, record, and pay bills in one workflow. This guide walks through paying a bill with Slash. For more on using your Bills dashboard under Payables, see Managing Bills in Slash. For reviewing and syncing bills to your accounting software, see Adding Bills to Your Accounting Dashboard.
How to add a bill to Slash
There are three ways to create a bill entry in Slash. To get started, click New bill in the top right of the Bills dashboard and select an option from the dropdown menu:
- Forward the bill to your AP inbox: Each Slash account has a dedicated accounts payable forwarding address, listed in the New bill dropdown menu. Once you forward the email containing the bill to that address, the bill entry appears in your dashboard automatically.
- Upload an invoice: Drag and drop an invoice (.pdf, .jpg, .jpeg, or .png) directly into the New bill dropdown menu. OCR extracts the bill details from the document automatically, and you can add more information in the bill creation panel before finalizing the entry.
- Create the bill without an invoice: If you don’t have a digital file to upload, you can enter the details in the bill creation panel manually.
How to pay a bill with Slash
Step 1: View and edit the bill details
After you add the bill, verify the extracted details and fill in any missing information before moving to payment. Notable fields on this panel that affect your payment details include:
- Vendor: If you’ve paid the vendor through Slash before, the upload process may detect the vendor record automatically. If it doesn’t, or if it selects the wrong vendor, search for the correct vendor in the dropdown. You can also enter vendor details manually by clicking New vendor, which reveals additional fields.
- Destination: If you have payment destinations saved for the selected vendor, choose the one you want from the Destination dropdown. If not, add new bank or crypto wallet details manually by clicking New destination.
At this point, you can go straight to payment, or save the bill details and update the bill status. For more on editing a bill and updating its status, see Managing Bills in Slash.
Step 2: Continue to payment
Click Continue to payment in the bottom right of the bill entry panel to start the standard Slash payment flow, using the details entered on the bill. If you have multiple payment methods available, select your preferred method before initiating.
Note: Destination details, fees, and payment methods shown in this example come from the Slash demo and don’t reflect the pricing or details of a typical payment.
Step 3: Wait for approval, if necessary
If a bill payment triggers your approval chain, the payment will be held until an approver reviews the request. In the Bills dashboard, the entry is marked Pending approval, and the payment request appears in both the approver’s Payments dashboard and action center.
Step 4: Confirm payment receipt and review
After the payment is initiated, confirm with the vendor that they received it, if necessary. Once the bill is paid, your team can manage it in the accounting panel. For details, see Adding Bills to Your Accounting Dashboard.
Scheduling bill payments
You can schedule a bill payment to send automatically on a future date during the payment flow:
- Near the bottom of the Payment details page, click the date marked Send on. It’s set to the current date by default.
- Choose a future date from the calendar menu that appears.
- Once scheduled, the bill entry is marked with the status Scheduled.
- The payment request will route to an approver immediately if necessary, yet the payment will only be initiated on the selected date.
